I updated to the latest and greatest i386 Gnome2 packages today (using
apt-get dist-upgrade). Now when I open a program there is a small
chance that, instead of opening, it will instead consume memory until I
manually kill it. This happened for Galeon-snapshot, the Gnome system
monitor and then GDM2 (when logging out of Gnome). No pattern seems to
be present in this, as opening each of the previously affected programs
again failed to produce a repeat of the problem, and other programs
will load normally without trouble.

There was a time when fontconfig made all software using it leak
hundreds of megabytes, but it was solved quite some time ago.
