Perhaps an amiable solution could be a note in the README, or
somewhere, explaining what happened and how to change it back?

I do think it's rather intrusive that the cursor suddenly changes
colour, though.

(I like the slicker look, but I want my arrow black. I think I read
about a study that found that black was better usability-wise, but I
am unable to locate it).
