This bug is not totally related to Yelp. I am conjecturing it is a
problem in your mime setup. Yelp is essentially "hard coded" to open
text/xml documents in itself. This includes all the additional help
documents. This totally bypasses the mime system.

However, it seems as if your mime system is not returning text/xml for
these documents, at least from Yelps perspective, so Yelp continues with
the rest of the process, which is to find the application to hand the
file off to. At this step, text/xml is successfully determined, and
gvim/abiword (depending on your preference) is opened.

So it seems Yelp is not detecting the mime type of these files
successfully. Can you both please try running gnomevfs-info on the help
document in question and post the mime-type in this bug report.

Thanks!
