Package: totem-xine
Version: 0.99.16-1
Severity: important
File: /usr/bin/totem

Totem with the xine backend (I have not tested the gstreamer one) fails to play video
files bearing the extension 'wmv' and detected by file(1) as 'Microsoft ASF'. I have
first encountered this behavior as of 0.99.16-1.

When given such a file as input, be it on the command line or from the open dialog,
the buttons, video area, etc. remain inactive as if no file had been loaded. On stderr
I get:

Entity: line 1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found
[ascii garbage]
^

I tried changing the file extension to 'asf' with no success.

These files play fine using xine-ui.

It was an upstream bug and it's apparently fixed now:

0.99.17:

* Fix parsing of Real Media and ASF playlists
