Just to avoid confusion - I'm not asking for an advice, I'm asking to 
fix the problem. I even provided a solution.

Upstream is the right place for fixing the problem but it could be ages 
until somebody even take a look at it. I was hoping for the patch to be 
included into the debian/patches (after thorough review, of course).
