Package: gdm
Version: 2.4.4.7-1
Severity: minor

After upgrade gdm selected by default for every users on this computer
"GNOME" session.
The sad thing is the fact they all use the default X session.

I assume that gdm lost the user settings during the upgrade.

1. Why the hell when it loose settings does it have to choose GNOME
instead of the most basic session on GNU/Linux, say X session?
I can vaguely understand the rationale behind: well, after all, it
is the GNOME Desktop Manage. But the fact is that only one DM can
be running on a computer: so it is not possible to consider that
using GDM means have GNOME as default choice. GNOME can even not be
   installed.
I suggest that you make the X session, something that should work
with or without GNOME, the default.

2. Why the hell when it loose settings does it have to consider that
its guess is "the default" choice for the user, and, as result,
prompt the user if, when he select something else, he really want
to change his default setting -- while it is only gdm that change
   this setting in first place?
If gdm forgot a user setting, it should just consider this user
   never logged in with gdm.

Thanks,

        Hi,

This is a followup for Debian bug <http://bugs.debian.org/200647>.

On Wed, Jul 09, 2003, Daniel Ruoso wrote:

This bug is now worked around in newer version: a popup will warn of
 inapropriate permissions.
