The printer is a Epson Stylus 1290 connected via USB to the MacOSX
(panther) machine. I hadn't copied the corresponding PPD as I assumed
that as it would auto-detect the existence of the remote printer, it
would also use the PPD info from there.

There it is slightly different: "Configure printer" tries to redirect me
to http://powerbook.local:631/admin/... , and on that address it gives
me a "403 Forbidden" - I guess I have to look into the cups
configuration on OSX.

Now, copying the PPD from /etc/cups/ppd in macosx to my linux machine
solves it partially (I can choose the paper size at least, now - but no
other options like resolution etc).

So why I still think this is a bug:
* If it is trying, but can't access the other machine's printer settings
for some reason ("Forbidden"), it should maybe mention something about
it in the UI.
* If a printer is automatically detected, I don't think it's right to
expect users to copy PPDs over manually. beats the point of automatic
detection a bit, don't you think?

Maybe this needs to be reassigned to cups proper, I'm not sure.
