Package: gnome-media
Version: 1.2.0-helix1
Severity: normal

Hi,

The "gmix" program doesn't update the volume controls when another
program changes the volume levels. I'm quite sure that the classic
mixer, "xmixer" got this right.

With gmix, changing the volume can lead to surprises. Say I set the
volumes to my liking: pcm output at 100% and master volume at 25%
(don't ask me why.) I play some song with gqmpeg. Everything fine.

Now my colleague enters the room. We have all mp3 shares mounted
on one system, where we share a "dj" account (so we both can start
stop music and adjust the volume without having to be root a lot.)

My colleague also fires up gmix and gqmpeg. He sets pcm output to
25% and master volume to 100% (don't ask me why) and starts playing
mpegs. He leaves the room. Some song on his playlist annoys the
hell out of me and I decide to tune down the pcm control from 100%
to 75%...

Oops! It goes from 25% to 100% at once and then back to 75%, and
then back to 0%, as fast as I can pull the control down.

Whoa! That made a lot of noise suddenly. My boss looks at me,
a little more disturbed than he already was.

With xmixer, I never had these problems.

Cheers,

Joost
