All the suggestions here can now be done with dbus.

Fast-forward and rewind are just using "get elapsed time" and "set elapsed
time", there are methods for Next and controlling playlists. There is also an
example python script in remote/dbus/ which basically does what you want with
an enhanced --print-playing.
