Bug#346424: GDM attempts to start the X server thrice

  If the X server can't be started for some reason (missing video
 driver, errors in the config file, et cetera), GDM will attempt to
 start it three times in a row.  That seems rather pointless.  If it
 didn't work the first time, there's no reason to assume it will half
 a second later.

  This behaviour is quite annoying, as the console is unuseable while
 GDM keeps attempting to start X.
