Package: gnome-session
Version: 2.8.1-5
Severity: normal

I have been through the following process many times over the last few
weeks, but have been unable to solve it. At first, I can log in without
any problems. But after a few logins, the login process stops at
"starting gnome-smproxy".

I then either have to switch to a TTY and kill gnome-smproxy, or wait
several minutes after which either gnome-smproxy continues, or
gnome-session times out and carries on with the next process (metacity).

Once this happens, the only way to fix it is to remove gnome-smproxy
from my .gnome2/session file, or delete the session file entirely.
