That's an interesting assertion. As far as I can tell, Debian kernels
support OSS just fine. Further, when I do unload the OSS emulation
modules and attempt to use ALSA interfaces directly, most stuff breaks.
I'm not all that interested in having working volume control at the cost
of having no working sound!

(Please do not offer assistance on the switch to ALSA, I do not wish to
spend any more time on it at present.) 

If you're unable to reproduce the bug, then by all means close the
ticket.
