Hi,

This is almost certainly a problem with vte, so I'm reassigning the bug
report. 

I have found an upstream bug, describing problems with cursor drawing,
it doesn't apply exactly to what you describe, but can be related.

It would be great if you could provide screenshots, or even a short
recording of the problem. It should be easy to do with "byzanz" or
"istanbul".
