JFTR: Why do you need "Open with other application" here? Bluefish
should be listed in "Open with" directly. If it is not, then it is the
default application to handle this file type (check: Properties > Open
with tab).

This is because the list is extended with the whole Debian menu and
there Bluefish has an entry too. I could change the name in Bluefish's
Debian menu file to the same value as found in the .desktop file to
avoid the second entry (seems to work for abiword). I will think about
this. But the cause of this issue isn't Bluefish itself. Red
