Hi,

This behaviour seems to have changed, from the NEWS file:

        - Only search for books in the XDG data/home directories

And from the XDG specs,

$XDG_DATA_HOME defines the base directory relative to which user
specific data files should be stored. If $XDG_DATA_HOME is
either not set or empty, a default equal to $HOME/.local/share
        should be used.

This isn't mentioned in the README, and such a change should also be
documented in NEWS.Debian I think.

I will report it upstream so it will be documented in the next version.
