Brand new user can utilise nautilus with no problems. Ugh. I am not so
keen this is grave.

I freed some space on /usr and installed gnome-dbg. Below is the
back-trace in case it is of some help. 

Oh, this looks like the diff-ext extension.

Removing it and restarting nautilus... Yeah! It works.
Great! The bug was already reported /twice/ to diff-ext :)
