 I had the same versions; but I tried killing my panel again, and got a
 floating GPM icon instead this time.  In fact, I always get a floating
 icon when I kill the panel twice in a row.

 I had a short look at the code, and nothing particular popped up; it
 should be handled by Gtk automatically; weird.
