Hi,

Strange indeed. Are you sure it's gnome-screensaver, you aren't running
xscreensaver also? Do an actual screensaver start, or do the screen
simply go black?

Are you adjusting the system time (manually or with something like ntp
or chrony running in the background)?

Is this a laptop or otherwise a system you suspend and resume?
