We have a Debian-specific patch for people who want to specify what's in
a new tab. See the /apps/epiphany/general/load_on_new_tab GConf key.

Furthermore, you don't need to open a new tab before launching your
search: just type Control-L to select the URL, type your search, select
the smart bookmark, and press Control-Return.
