I did not have this file in my home directory. But creating it with the
content

gtk-theme-name = "Clearlooks"
gtk-icon-theme-name = "gnome"

as described in the link of your message from 21:37 +0200 fixed the
problem.

Aren't there any symbols in the default theme, which could be used as
substitutes. So that it does not show the white-paper-with-a-cross? And
how was this handled before evolution 2.10?
