I have seen this before, in bug 436509 it happened with Brasero. In this
Ubuntu bug it was caused by the cd polling being disabled in HAL;
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sound-juicer/+bug/137830

I'm guessing it's HAL related, but it's odd that it should work with
Rhythmbox.
