Bug#494498: libgnome2-0: gnome-open doesn't honor the preferred browser, insists on launching epiphany

    When clicking bug links in 'update-manager', epiphany is launched no matter what I do
to configure gnome preferences and alternatives.  I set 'Preferred Applications/Internet/Web Browser',
'x-www-browser' and 'gnome-www-browser' to iceweasel but epiphany keeps popping up.  Just to try
and get the bug report to display in iceweasel once I removed epiphany-browser/gecko, and this resulted
in nothing happening when I clicked on the bug link.  After reinstalling iceweasel and epiphany-browser
epiphany got launched again.  The update-manager ChangelogViewer.py script tests for the presence of
gnome-open and if it is not there the command is set to 'x-www-browser', so I deleted gnome-open and
voila, when I click on a bug link a new iceweasel tab is opened displaying the bug.

     One of the problems debugging this is that gnome-open just dies silently if there is a problem 
(as in the case with epiphany not being installed), and there are no messages in .xsession-errors
or anywhere else, also no '--verbose' switch or anything.
