Hi Sam,

my dselect says:

*** Opt libs libxml2 2.6.27.dfsg 2.6.27.dfsg GNOME XML library

so a downgrade seems impossible.
I am on Debian 4 (Etch)

an aptitiude reinstall libxml2 installs from http://security.debian.org 
etch/updates/main libxml2 2.6.27.dfsg-3
after that i reinstalled gnome-themes-extras but with the effect of 
yesterday.
