There's actually an old upstream bug about this,
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=171582 I will mark the bug as
forwarded.

More of interest is the bug about monitoring document changes and
automatically reload the file. Hopefully it will sort out these
issues... http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304249
