Bug#489955: ImportError: dynamic module does not define init function (initgtk)

I am unable to run several programs, for example gramps and
skysentials.py, because of the following error:

ImportError: dynamic module does not define init function (initgtk)

I have tried to upgrade, re-install. Perhaps it is a python setup
problem? But the _gtk.so shared object does not contain the initgtk
string in it either.
