This should not happen (GNOME or not) unless you have explicitly
disabled dbus and prevented it from launching
in /etc/X11/Xsession.options.

What is the command line of your session? In the process list, it should
look like this:
/usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session x-session-manager
(Of course it actually depends on what session manager you are using.)
