Gnome-appearance-properties does not show most of the listbox thumbnails
(themes, controls, windows borders and icons) showing a generic picture
instead with a big question mark in it, only wallpapers and cursors are
shown.
The program uses 100% CPU and remains in memory after being closed
(still using 100% CPU), sending SIGTERM suffices in killing the app.
A new user with an empty %HOME% will not encounter this bug.
There is an Ubuntu bug report maybe covering the issue on:

Having read #448902 I'm adding the following information:
