Bug#484009: Policy wrt to removal of packages which are part of a task

Hello,

First of all, sorry for sending the bug to the wrong location (it was
reportbug's fault, it should be more intelligent than me :-) )

As of today, both gnome meta-packages are back to testing repositories,
so the main problem is gone.

Regarding gnome-cups-manager, I have completely removed it and installed
system-config-printer (it does not start, there seems to be a python bug
- but that's another story...).

I have applied again (with Aptitude) desktop and gnome-desktop tasks,
and installed new packages. However, I have not seen
system-config-printer there yet (it is a dependency in gnome
meta-package, though; may be it should be added to tasksel...).

Regarding update-manager / update-notifier, I was using it with no
problems. For me it is not dramatic having it removed, though, as I tend
to use synaptic itself. Nevertheless, it's true that novice users may
suffer from security problems or lack of new functionality.

I would help fixing the packages myself, but currently I only have time
to be on the dark side (bug reporter).

Thank you.
