Bug#454986: gnome-power-manager: Similar problem on Toshiba Portege R500

I think I might be seeing the same problem. This is a Toshibe Portege R500, with a fresh 
lenny install (installer beta 2).

s2ram apparently succeeds but then the machine spontaneously restarts.

The echo trick doesn't work for me:

echo "standby" > /sys/power/state

pm-suspend shows the same symptoms.

I didn't really suspect gpm at all from looking at syslog shows:
