Bug#483832: gnome-terminal window takes very long time to draw

gnome-terminal works fine for metacity.

however, if the window manager is compiz or xfwm4, it takes a very long time to
update the window, including:
- startup
- window resize
- new tab (since it has to redraw the window)

this problem persists even if i switch off terminal transparency.

this problem does not occur for xterm.

this problem does not occur for embedded terminals, such as that in geany and gedit
