Ahhhh, that is interesting ... it gives me
	12x13ja.pcf.gz: "Fixed" "ja"
But since that font is in xfonts-base I am not sure I want to remove the
packages.

Doing fc-match --all fixed I get quite a long list.

Any idea what has happened here?

(Side note:
Now with another round of playing around it seems that it was not
triggered with the fontconfig, or could be remade.

I thought I had fixed-10, but now I realize I had fixed-9 which is
displayed correctly.

The problem with fixed-10 and the fontconfig update was the bitmapped
fonts were disabled.

But the problem that gnome-terminal selects a different font then gedit
still remains, namely that it selects a font that is broken)

Best wishes

Norbert

CANNOCK CHASE (n.)
In any box of After Eight Mints, there is always a large number of
empty envelopes and no more that four or five actual mints. The
cannock chase is the process by which, no matter which part of the box
often, you will always extract most of the empty sachets before
pinning down an actual minot, or 'cannock'. The cannock chase also
occurs with people who put their dead matches back in the matchbox,
and then embarrass themselves at parties trying to light cigarettes
with tree quarters of an inch of charcoal. The term is also used to
describe futile attempts to pursue unscrupulous advertising agencies
who nick your ideas to sell chocolates with.
