Bug#500360: gossip: Network traffic is incredibly high due to constant vcard requests / 100% cpu usage

Package: gossip
Version: 1:0.30-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

There are two problems with this package; I'm not sure if they are related.

First is very large network traffic. This is a known bug and already fixed in
1:0.31-1, see also http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=545451

Second problem is that occasionally, gossip uses 100% cpu and is unresponsive.
On my system, this occurs about 30 minutes after starting the package and lasts
for about one minute; after that, gossip is suddenly idle and behaves as normal
again. I'm not sure if this is a known bug (or if it is related to the network
traffic issue), but it seems to be fixed in 1:0.31-1 from unstable as well.

Marked this bug as Grave / Renders package unusable, since the admin of the
jabber server (paul at luon.net) told me that if all users of his server would use
this package, the server would die due to the amount of traffic. Would be nice
if 1:0.31-1 could make it into testing before the next release.
