According to your own sayings, this is not possible:

In this mail you explain that cdrecord does not work correctly with HAL.
However, HAL is one of the dependencies of brasero, it is also now a
dependency of the X server.

So following your own advice, we will keep using wodim with brasero, as
it works correctly with HAL.
