If you are not in the mood of restarting the whole gnome session, you can easily identify the process PID and sent it
the HUP signal via the kill command. Thus the panel is restarted and Alt+F2 is working normally as expected.

For example:

ps aux | grep gnome-panel
hijacker 29905  0.0  0.7 115328 39436 ?        Sl   Nov26  19:37 gnome-panel
hijacker at hanna:~$ kill -HUP 29905


Thanks for the hint with restarting the panel. I was unsuccessfully digging until now to get that working after the last
updates were installed.
