i really think it is gconf2, and not debian-edu-artwork, as the upgrade of
debian-edu-artwork works fine with lenny's version of gconf2, and fails with
squeeze's gconf2. that was my experience, anyways.

CC'ed the bug number assigned to gconf2 (#530586). still waiting on responses
from the gconf2 maintainer...
