OK, so that explains it.

Raphaël, I’d be interested if you could test gnome-session 2.26 in
experimental. Theoretically, it should not block, but you will just see
a pulsing cursor for some time after logging in.

After that, you won’t be able to save the window locations and
workspaces if you save your session, but the rest should work fine.
