I have been able to reproduce the problem. I updated the mime.cache (update-mime-database.real ~./local/share/mime). After a reboot, all those applications (Pidgin, Iceweasel, Icedove) do segfault again, when I try to access files (to send or save). After removing the file and restarting the application(s), all works fine again.
