It was introduced to fix a crash. Most likely upstream fixed it in a
different way.

It’s an UI fix; the original software uses the wrong icon. I don’t know
whether this is fixed, but it probably needs to be done in the .ui now.

It’s a fix for the D-Bus permissions, allowing the user’s
system-config-printer-applet to listen to the signal.

If upstream uses packagekit now, it should be possible (after fixing the
package names of course) by depending on sessioninstaller.
