I have been using plain startx to start XFCE.

I installed libpam-ck-connector, and everything seems to be working now
- this also seems to have resolved the problems that I reported here:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=574652

So it seems that we need some kind of dependency on
libpam-ck-connector?

Thanks for walking me through this!
