That's right, I think there's a quick fade from the gdm background to
the users background, but it's almost to quick to notice.

I just tried this, and yes, it works the same way.

The only problem I've noticed is that the background in gdm is taking
several seconds to show up (possibly because it takes a while to render
the SVG?) but I guess it's one of the kinks left to work out in the new
version.
