Bug#598016: dies on too many desktops

Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.30.1-2
Severity: serious

On my fresh squeeze system with gnome I set the number of desktops to 30.

Next time I logged into the system the windowmanager didn't start.

Looking into this it turns out that metacity dies like this:

| weasel at rubicon:~$ metacity
| Window manager warning: "" found in configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding "minimize"
| Window manager warning: "" found in configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding "activate_window_menu"
| Window manager warning: "" found in configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding "unmaximize"
| Window manager warning: "" found in configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding "begin_move"
| Window manager warning: "" found in configuration database is not a valid value for keybinding "panel_main_menu"
| **
| metacity:ERROR:core/prefs.c:2482:meta_prefs_get_workspace_name: assertion failed: (workspace_names[i] != NULL)
| zsh: abort metacity
| weasel at rubicon:~$

Adding workspace names manually to
.gconf/apps/metacity/workspace_names/%gconf.xml fixes the issue, but ick :)

Cheers,
weasel
