Maybe a better soloution would be for cogl to do what mesa does and
GL and GLES versions on all platforms. It would then be up to the
of application packages to decide if they wanted to make the extra
effort to use
GLES on platforms where propietry hardware acceleration is available for it.

The debian rc policy clearly states "Packages must be supported on as many
architectures as is reasonably possible."
