Yes, #612464 does look similar. However, that bug was reported in
February of this year, whereas the problem I am experiencing goes back
to November of last year --- around the time that #604680 was reported.
That coincidence led me to attribute the font corruption seen in
gnome-terminal and iceweasel to the same root cause.

Interestingly, the corruption is only seen in gnome-terminal and
iceweasel "content", and never in the "chrome" of those, or any other,
applications. Does that observation help to narrow it down at all?
