Thanks for the detailed bug report.
I'm seeing those gnome-settings-daemon crashes myself in dmesg, but I'm still
able to start and use gnome-session successfully. So your problem of not being
able to start the GNOME session might be something different. You could try
running the fallback mode, which also runs gnome-settings-daemon, to verify
that. In that case, we should handle this problem in a separate bug report.
