Hi

am using an updated squeeze system:
gnome-screensaver 3.4.1-1

xrandr -q sais:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA-1 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y
axis) 376mm x 301mm 1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.1 75.0 60.0
   832x624 74.6
   800x600 75.0 60.3
   640x480 75.0 60.0
   720x400 70.1

I am using LTSP (linux terminal server project) and on some terminal
clients (seems to depend on video hardware type) i have the problem
that screensaver graphics work (animations and such) and when i try to
relogin, no prompt appears. I can however blindly type the password and
it works.

at the moment when i press Return, you shortly see the password window
flicker (at least its gray widget background), but only very short. it
disappears at once since a correct password has been entered.

XDMCP is used here.

This behaviour is extremly annoying to our users and i get regular calls
on the phone that "the screen is black again!". then i go and do a
"killall gnome-screensaver" to make things work again.

It seems that this bug in gnome-screensaver can be triggered by certain
hardware / xserver configs.

when i login by XDMCP not via my LTSP terminal, but by a Xephyr session
from a normal PC, then everything works, i.e. a password prompt is
displayed.

***

i want to emphasize this:

in exactly the same setup (XDMCP, same user, same application server)

you get a working situation with Xephyr from a normal linux PC

or a not-working situation with several (but not all!) LTSP clients

cya
Erik
