Bug#681087: An attempt to remove background picture results in a failure to start gdm.

Package: gdm3
Version: 3.4.1-2
Severity: important

How to reproduce:
1. Edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gsettings by uncommenting the three lines responsible for completely removing the background picture.
Before the edit:
# [org.gnome.desktop.background]
# picture-options='none'
# primary-color='#000000'

After the edit:
[org.gnome.desktop.background]
picture-options='none'
primary-color='#000000'

2. Restart gdm3 by issuing
/etc/init.d/gdm3 restart
or by rebooting the machine.

3. Observe that when gdm3 tries to restart, it fails to do so. Instead, it starts a (probably nonterminating) series of continuous restarts (shortly the mouse cursor gets displayed, then it disappears). Observe that you cannot use the machine any more: you cannot even switch to any console since the next restart of gdm takes you out.

Expected behaviour: gdm3 starts from the first attempt.

4. Reboot by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del several times in a row.

Attachments: greeter.gsettings and the probably relevant tail of the syslog.

Best regards
Jaakov.
