Bug#719268: gnome-power-manager: no battery icon in gnome-shell, no action executed on critical battery level

Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 3.8.2-1
Severity: normal

As per subject - in Gnome-shell 3.8.0, no battery icon is shown. Unlike earlier versions of gnome-power-manager, there is no setting in the preferences to enable an icon. What's worse, gpm doesn't appear to execute any action on critical battery state. Yesterday, my laptop just switched itself of without warning, because the battery was empty, g-p-m did not even attempt to hibernate.
