In gedit 3.8.3, the top bar menu doesn't have the usual menu items.

A normal invocation of ‘gedit’ results in a top bar menu with these items:

    New Window
    Preferences
    Help
    About
    Quit

When run in a ‘su - root’ session, though, the top bar menu only has:

    Quit

Other times, the top bar menu simply does not appear when run as root.

This problem also occurs if run as root by ‘su -u root gedit’.

The following error message appears in the console:

(gedit:20346): dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: The connection is closed
