Bug#712628: gnome-terminal: ctrl-shift-n doesn't keep directory

Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 3.8.3-1

I have a machine with 3.4.1.1-2 installed, and I just installed a new
one with 3.8.3-1 on it. Because of this problem I didn't upgrade the
old package, so I could compare them.

My problem is that on the newer terminal, when opening a new terminal
with ctrl-shift-n, it will always open in my home directory, but I want
it to be in the directory where the terminal I used the hotkey on was
in. In the old version, this is the case.

I've looked at the process list for both versions, and noticed that the
new version runs a program called "gnome-terminal-server", while the old
one doesn't. I'm guessing this is a change in the design where all
terminals are managed by a central server instead of simply spawning
each other. I can see why this is done, and why this would cause my
bug, but that doesn't make it any less annoying; I hope the new design
allows passing the new "current" directory, so the old behaviour can be
restored.

Thanks,
Bas
