I could try, but installing gnome-shell would bring in around 70
dependencies and I am sure it will leave my laptop in an unusable state,
quite probably destroying even my xfce setup (by addint hundreds of items
to the autostart, taking over the dm, etc etc).

Sorry, no thanks, close the bug if you cannot reproduce it, I have
no interest in gnome3.
